In part 1 of this series about the X-Rite i1 Studio Mike Hagen walked us through using the i1 as a monitor calibration device. In my opinion the real news here is how easy, consistent, and accurate the i1 Studio is in producting custom paper/printer profiles. This part of the review and demonstration illustrates exactly how that is done.
Our studio has tried a lot of reasonably priced monitor/paper/printer calibraters over the years and gave up that it was possible to get a paper/printer custom profile as easily and as consistently as the i1 Studio provides. Up until we tried the i1 Studio we wouldn’t have believed it. A few years ago the process was tedious, error prone, and produced wildly varying results with multiple attempts. That’s changed, the i1 Studio is pretty much fool proof and gets the job done faster than other much higher priced dedicated paper profiling solutions we’ve tried.
Below is a video where Mike Hagen walks thru of the i1 Studio for paper / printer calibration.
